“I stopped waiting to be chosen. I built the room myself.”
THE STORY
There's a version of this bio that reads like a resume. Federal attorney. In-house counsel. Immigration advocate. Federally certified law enforcement officer. Founder. Moderator.
That version is accurate. But it misses the through-line.
Born in Toronto, educated in both Toronto and Sydney, building in Los Angeles. Devika grew up between worlds — and that in-between space taught her something most legal training doesn't: the most important work happens at the intersections. Between law and narrative. Between institution and community. Between power and accountability.
Over twelve years she has been inside the system from every angle — as senior in-house counsel at FIGS through a successful NYSE IPO, as a Staff Attorney at Immigrant Defenders Law Center fighting for unaccompanied children in immigration court across 65+ active cases, and most recently as an Attorney-Advisor with the U.S. Department of Justice overseeing the legal portfolio for four federal correctional institutions across Southern California. She has also held senior legal roles at GQR Global Markets, AirMap, and Zest AI — building infrastructure across fintech, drone technology, and global recruiting.
In parallel she has built in public — as the founder of The Civic Room, moderator of Law Unboxed through the South Asian Bar Association (SABA) SoCal, Co-Director of Mentorship and Events on the SABA SoCal board, and founder of Ideate Legal and Motherland Designs.
What she learned across all of it: the most consequential change happens when someone is willing to sit inside the complexity — not advise from a safe distance. That's the kind of counsel she provides. And that's the kind of convener she has become.
THE PHILOSOPHY
Law is a bridge, not a barrier. The best legal counsel doesn't just manage risk — it builds the infrastructure for what's possible. Devika is a strategic partner first and a lawyer second — bringing the full weight of her cross-sector experience to every engagement, because the organizations and leaders she works with deserve nothing less.
"I'm not waiting to be chosen. I built the room myself. And I'm inviting the right people in."
If that's you — let's talk.
